A technology for every need
When talking about printing for flexible packaging, we find multiple technologies and systems that respond to the specific requirements of each project and to the various market trends.
At Comexi we offer three types of technologies for flexible packaging printing: Flexographic printing, offset printing, and digital printing.Â
Flexography is a direct rotary printing system in which high relief flexible plates are used to transfer the image directly from the plate to the substrate. It is the most common printing for flexible packaging.Â
Advantages:Â
- Multiple substrates: perfect for printing on all kinds of packaging thanks to the flexibility and adaptability of the plate.Â
- High Profitability: due to the printer shape, it is possible to print long and very long runs at a lower cost.Â
- Faster: the inks need less drying, thus speeding up the printing process.Â
Disadvantages:Â
- Lower definition: because of the characteristics of the plates, the lineatures are smaller and the minimum types and gradients are slightly more limited.
Offset printing with central drum has all the advantages of offset printing plus the perfect adaptation to flexible materials such as plastic.
Advantages:Â
- Sustainability: solvent-less technology that facilitates the recyclability of packaging. Â
- Very high-quality printing: high resolution, perfect for images and gradients and very demanding jobs.Â
- Competitive: plates have a much lower cost, which facilitates flexibility to change designs. Â
- Allows printing multiple SKUs: lower costs and job changes.Â
- Ideal for short runs.Â
Disadvantages:Â
- Higher cost of printer acquisition.Â
Digital printing does not use printing plates like other technologies, and instead it prints directly through ink cartridges. This makes the initial costs very low and enables you to print any volume.
Advantages:Â
- Ideal for short and very short print runs: as no plates are used, there are no printing minimums.Â
- Customization: ideal for offering customised, different, and promotional packaging.
- No prepress needed.Â
Disadvantages:Â
- The inks are more expensive, so it is not recommended for runs of more than 5,000 meters.Â
- It only accepts CMYK inks, so the range of colors is more limited.Â
Complete your printing process
For the perfect integration of the whole converting process, Comexi offers solutions in lamination and coating
Laminating is the process by which a single structure is created from two materials, to gain barrier and sealing properties that a single material could not fulfill. Comexi laminators contemplate a wide variety of laminations and coatings and base their design on:Â
- More automation: processes such as Close Loop, mark-to-mark detection, peripheral integration, quick sleeve changes, among others.Â
- More sustainability and lower energy costs: thanks to their highly efficient drying tunnels, air recirculation system and reduced use of solvents.Â
- Versatility: suitable for a wide variety of materials and finishes, thanks to accurate web tension control and very high machine customization.
- Usability: very ergonomic and intuitive.Â
Complete your printing process
For the perfect integration of the whole converting process, Comexi offers solutions in , slitting, and laser. Â
Slitting finishes the process to offer a smaller and error-free coil. Comexi slitters are widely recognized for their high quality and performance. Â
- Maximum productivity: shorter working cycles, faster changeovers, savings in labor and energy costs. Speeds up to 1000 m/min. Â
- Reliability: quality of the final application assured. Avoids unexpected stops.Â
- Versatile: suitable for multiple materials and applications: different types of flexible plastics, paper, cardboard, … Materials ranging from 7 to 620 microns.Â
Enhancing Converter Efficiency: Reel Handling Solutions
